We’re consistently seeking betterment in our lives. Not a bad thing by any means. However, it always seems we go about it our own way rather than God’s way. That’s a recipe for disaster!

All to often we set out with the right intentions of bettering our lives only to realize the changes implemented weren’t that great. We like to make attempts to better ourselves with personal development tools, tips, and techniques. We like to follow the lead of some “guru.” Or we simply start removing things from our lives that we feel shouldn’t be there.

Have you ever tried to remove the air from a cup? Pretty simple really. Just fill it with water. One element replaces the other.

For me, filling my life with God’s Holy Spirit seems to do the trick.

Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

If I simply allow myself to become a vessel for the Master’s use, He does the maintenance and makes the changes!

When I make the recommendations and changes things tend to get a little loose. But when I’m able to discern His Spirit and His will… man this vessel runs full tilt!

Psalm 84:11 says, “… no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

Let him be ”crew chief” so-to-speak. He’ll make the necessary changes. And, the right changes in your life.

“… For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” (James 4:14-15).

I like to think of this verse as a boiling pot of water. Steam rises from the pot and within seconds disappears. Just like our life.

This is a frequent metaphor throughout the Old Testament of the Bible. Check out a few…

Psalm 102:11; Job 8:9; 1 Chron. 29:15

The bottom line…

“No man should ever say that he will do this or that, without the condition of IF GOD WILL.”

We all have goals we wish to obtain. Sometimes along that journey we become so focused on our desire to achieve that objective, we neglect to see what is happening all around us.

Take the time to consider what God’s will is for you on this day. Sometimes he might have to make a quick stop along the way to shed His light on another’s life!

Consider it!
